Rory Waterson, PrCPM
Principal
Rory graduated in South Africa and emigrated to Canada in 1992. For over 20 years, he has gained experience both as a general contractor and as an owner's representative.
With a background managing large scale estate developments, including civil infrastructure, hotels and casinos, his experience as an owner's representative provides invaluable understanding of what it takes to make a build successful for all involved. Rory brings his extensive professionalism and a cool head to any complex project.
Dan Robbins, IPRS, BTech
Principal
Dan brings 20 years of experience to the Halse-Martin team as a certified red seal carpenter, site superintendent, and project manager. He also completed his bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from BCIT in 2018.
Dan provides a practical and effective approach to our clients through precise project scheduling, planning and execution. His broad experience in the field enables him to integrate the needs of multiple stakeholders into simple solutions.
Chato Hofilena, BSc
Accountant and Office Manager
Chato has over 32 years of experience in accounting, audit, banking, and customer service. She is responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting and other administrative work for the company.
Chato graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor of Science in commerce with a major in accounting, and is a designated certified public accountant. She brings a wealth of accounting experience and a highly detailed and efficient approach. She ensures the well-being and smooth running of Halse-Martin.
Sam Honcharuk, Dip. Tech
Project Manager and Estimator
Sam has prior experience managing design and construction as an owner's representative. He graduated BCIT's Architecture & Building Engineering Technology program in 2011, and is currently pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management and professional quantity surveyor designation.
Sam brings a positive, solution-oriented approach to Halse Martin, and has quickly gained a reputation with our clients for successful projects and exceptional customer service.
Dirk Schoenmaker, BSc
Project Manager and Estimator
Dirk brings experience in a wide variety of commercial and institutional projects in Northern Europe to Halse-Martin Construction. He carries a degree in Construction Project Management from the Bauhaus University, Germany.
Since he immigrated to Canada in 2014 he has successfully completed numerous complex and unique mass timber projects from engineering through fabrication to installation throughout North America and the lower mainland before he joined Halse-Martin Construction.
Dirk adds value to our projects with detailed understanding of the task at hand and outside of the box solutions. His multilingual background (Dutch, German) enables a quick shifting thinking in a fast paced project environment.
Karl Cox
Project Manager and Estimator
Karl has close to 20 years of project experience in the commercial and residential sectors. Starting out his career as a Quantity Surveyor and Project Manager in Ireland’s commercial industry, Karl relocated to Canada in 2010. Over the last decade, he has focused on Project Management within the residential sector, working with some of Vancouvers top home builders.
With hundreds of projects under his belt, Karl demonstrates a drive for success and a positive mentality. Years on the tools as a finishing carpenter speak to his attention to detail throughout the life of a project.
Outside of work, Karl is the proud father of two. For fun, he enjoys the regions easy access to nature, and outdoor sports such as soccer.
Thomas Furseth
Project Manager and Estimator
Thomas got his start in residential construction, and holds a Certified Housing Professional designation with the CHBA & BC Housing, as well as a Certificate in Project Management from UBC.
During his 10 years as a Project Manager, Thomas has been fortunate to work on a wide variety of projects with different architects, learning many approaches to planning and problem solving.
Some examples include: recital halls, commercial kitchens, clinics, banks, hospitals, and office spaces.
Thomas has an eagerness to learn and understand the intricacies of projects in order to determine who needs to be involved and when, to find issue resolution and the best path forward.
Outside of work, Thomas is a musician, and can often be found with a guitar in hand, playing rock at local venues.
Jonathan Macdonald
Construction Safety Officer
Jonathan has more than 15 years of experience in construction in a wide variety of roles. Exposure to residential, commercial, and industrial construction lends well to his position as a safety officer with Halse-Martin.
Jonathan acquired his CSO designation in Alberta in 2014, and has since focused on roles specific to workplace safety, emergency preparedness, and the development of formal safety programs.
